Vermont Moose Hunting Permits - June 3 is the Deadline to Apply

WATERBURY, VT - Vermont moose hunting permit applications are available at license agents statewide and on the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department's website (www.vtfishandwildlife.com).

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department will issue 1,260 moose hunting permits for the 2008 hunting season. About 630 moose are expected to be taken during the hunting season to be held October 20-25 or October 27-November 1, depending on the permit.

We are managing Vermont's moose population to keep it in balance with available habitat, said Cedric Alexander, Vermonts lead biologist on moose. Carefully constructed hunting regulations enable us once again to enjoy having moose in Vermont on a sustained basis, while their numbers are maintained at levels that fit habitat capacity and the needs of people.

Ninety percent of Vermont moose hunting permits are issued by lottery to residents and the remaining 10 percent to nonresidents.

Lottery applications are $10 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. Winners of the permit lottery will purchase resident permits for $100 and nonresident permits for $350.

Hunters also will have the option to bid on five moose hunting permits in an auction to be announced later.

Applications must be postmarked no later than June 3, 2008, or delivered by 4:30 p.m. that day to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department office, 103 South Main Street, Waterbury, VT 05671-0501.
