Anglers are still ice fishing, but caution needs to be used especially on those waters with currents or natural springs. Some rivers are experiencing ice jams and high water levels.

Lake Erie - Still had some ice in places however the ice should not be considered safe as the latest warm spell has again softened the ice.

Huron River - Water levels are still a bit high and muddy. Light numbers of steelhead and perch have been caught, and the walleye were starting to show up.

Detroit River - Due to lack of ice, anglers are using small boats or shore fishing. Those using boats need to be careful and pay close attention to the ice flows coming down the river. Perch were caught around Gibraltar and up near Belanger Park.

Saginaw Bay - There is ice however there are also large cracks with open water. Anglers need to use extreme caution if venturing out. Off Pine River and Palmer Roads, perch action was slow. Walleye anglers were using these sites to get out to the Catfish Hole. Off Erickson Road and Linwood Road, walleye have been caught about four miles out in 17 to 23 feet of water. Morning and evening are best, but watch out for the cracks. Small perch were taken off Quanicassee. Pike were speared in 5 feet of water off Vanderbilt Park. Walleye anglers were heading way out off Thomas Road and the Tietz Drain, but no reports on success. Look for small perch in the marina at Sebewaing. North of Sebewaing, walleye anglers were going out more than five miles to the Bar. At Caseville, perch were caught in the marina.

Saginaw River - Had heavy currents and murky water which has slowed fishing. These periodic storm fronts that roll through every few days keep the rivers stirred up and prevent the formation of good ice.

Tittabawassee River - Boat ramps are jammed with ice.

Pigeon River - Some lake trout have been caught. It is legal to take them out of the river if they are over 24 inches. Daily bag limit is 3 fish.

St. Joe River - The water levels are up some and just starting to turn muddy. Those fishing the open waters near the Berrien Springs Dam are taking some steelhead.

Big Paw Paw Lake - Has very good pike fishing when using tip-ups.

Kalamazoo River - Look for walleye up near the Allegan Dam.

Grand River at Grand Rapids - Is open below Plaster Creek, which is where the ice jam was. There is an open channel on the west side of the river near the Sixth Street Dam, where bobber fishing has produced some steelhead. Walleye anglers have done well below Plaster Creek.

Morrison Lake - Some crappies have been caught but caution needs to be used.

Lake Ovid - Is only producing small bluegills.

Reeds Lake - Crappie have been caught at night near the Fire Station when using minnows or wax worms. Perch are hitting just off the boat launch in 25 to 30 feet of water. Pike are hitting on tip-ups with sucker minnows or golden shiners.

Cranberry Lake - Crappie can be found about 15 feet down in 30 feet of water.

Muskegon Lake - Perch have been caught near the Sand Docks, Hartshorn Marina and Second Street. Try cut bait, minnows, spikes or fish eyes in waters at least 30 feet deep. Walleye anglers are jigging. Pike are hitting on tip-ups with golden shiners. Some bluegills were caught near the State Park. Warm water from the river has opened up the ice. Anglers should avoid this area.

Grand Lake - Has good reports of walleye and perch being caught.

Long Lake - Walleye and perch are being caught.

Thunder Bay River - Steelhead have been caught by those wading right below the Ninth Street Dam. There should be walleye, lake trout and whitefish in the lower river, but ice conditions on that part of the river are not safe at this time.

Fletcher's Floodwaters - Is producing good numbers of pike up to 10 pounds. As for panfish, mostly bluegills and pumpkinseed sunfish were hitting in the upper end of the reservoir. They ranged from 5 to 8 inches.

Van Etten Lake - Has good perch fishing near the YMCA Camp. Look for walleye in 10 to 20 feet of water off the State Forest Campground.

Tawas Bay - Perch fishing remains spotty, and many of the fish caught have been small. Perch were coming from waters 18 to 20 feet deep and the walleye from 20 to 25 feet deep. Pike spearing improves every time the waters clear up.

Au Gres - Has mainly walleye fishing. Anglers were going about four miles off Northport and catching fish in 20 feet of water.

Higgins Lake - Has ice and anglers are doing well. With lake trout coming in shallow to feed, anglers have caught them in waters 20 to 100 feet deep. Jumbo perch have been caught in 35 to 45 feet of water. Try out from Big Creek on the west side of the lake.

Houghton Lake - The ice is holding but additional snowfall could cause some travel problems on the ice. Walleye and pike action continues, and perch were still being caught near the Middle Grounds and in the northeast corner of the lake.

Skegemog Lake - Perch fishing continues.

Traverse City - The die-hard anglers are taking small boats out for whitefish when the weather permits.

Long Lake - Has fair walleye fishing, but many of the fish were small. A few perch have also been caught.

Green Lake - Light numbers of smelt have been caught near the Music Camp. Be very careful on the rest of the lake.

Big Glen Lake - Perch were caught right off the bottom in 40 to 60 feet of water.

Crystal Lake - Has fair to good perch fishing. Target the waters 25 to 40 feet deep along the weedbeds just off Beulah.

Lake Missaukee - The walleye and crappie bite picked up with the warmer weather.

Lake Cadillac - Pike fishing has been extremely good for those spearing or using tip-ups. Concentrate near the weedbeds and drop offs. Perch fishing was slow.

Lake Mitchell - Continues to host good ice fishing. Crappies have been caught but many were small. Pike fishing has been good. Fish the coves and the weedbeds.

Upper Hamlin Lake - Bluegills are being caught but lots of small ones.

Lower Hamlin - Walleye were caught in 20 to 30 feet of water when jigging minnows.

Pere Marquette Lake - Pike and perch are being caught. Most of the pike were taken on tip-ups.

Portage Lake - Fishing remains slow. A few pike ranging from 22 to 25 inches were caught in Chassell Bay when using tip-ups with minnows. The Humps are still producing a few walleye just after daybreak and before dusk.

Keweenaw Bay - Now has ice along the south shore between L'Anse and Baraga. There is access off US-41. Coho and herring were slow and the yellow perch fishing has been fair.

Huron Bay - Anglers report very good whitefish action. Steelhead, herring, coho and perch have also been caught.

Second Fortune Lake - Near Crystal Falls has fair to good walleye fishing.

Sawyer Lake - Near the town of Channing had a fair number of pike caught during a recent fishing contest.

Little Bay De Noc - Ice conditions and travel remain favorable in the northern half of the Bay, but the southern half is still dangerous because the shipping lane remains open. Walleye catches were still down, but improving. Day anglers reported fair catches off the Center Reef when using tip-ups with minnows in 20 feet of water. Evening and night anglers were jigging rapalas with minnows in 20 to 25 feet of water near the Light House or when jigging minnows along the break south of Aronson Island. A few jumbo perch were taken in 20 to 28 feet of water near Kipling or in 25 feet of water north of Escanaba River. Jigging with spikes, minnows or wigglers worked best. Pike spearing was good in 8 to 10 feet of water near Kipling. Tip-ups worked in 17 to 25 feet of water. Whitefish action was fair to good off Sand Point when jigging minnows or spawn in 70 to 80 feet of water.

Munising - There is ice in the Bay and good numbers of whitefish have been caught in waters 60 to 80 feet deep when jigging spawn or wax worms. Many were small. Splake were caught when jigging spawn in 50 to 70 feet of water. Schools of lake herring were seen in the top 25 feet of water and those spearing had some luck. A few small perch were caught while seeking whitefish.

Munuscong Bay - Is producing some nice walleye in shallow waters such as 2 to 3 feet near Grassy Island. Try jigging with spoons and minnow heads. Use caution if you're venturing out past 7 feet of water because of the variable ice thickness.

Cedarville and Hessel - Yellow perch and the occasional pike were caught in Musky Bay when jigging minnows, wax worms and wigglers in 10 to 12 feet of water. The bigger fish are in Moscoe Channel, but the number of fish is much lower.
