This fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers. Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

Catches of the week

Tingley Beach: Jan. 19, Mel Brown of Rio Rancho and Andy Kim of Aztec caught a 23-inch, 7-pound rainbow trout. They were using a size 22 yong special.
Chama River: Jan. 21, David Dimas of Albuquerque caught a 25-inch, 5-pound brown trout. He was fishing by the swinging bridge below El Vado and using a Panther Martin.

NORTHEAST AREA

CONCHAS LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
EAGLE NEST LAKE: As of Monday the ice was about 17 inches thick. Fishing was rated as slow by most anglers. There were a few trout and perch taken by anglers using ice jigs tipped with salmon eggs and wax worms.
LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE: As of Monday there was about 14-to-16 inches thick at Lake Maloya and 10 inches at Lake Alice. Trout fishing was rated as good this past week. Anglers did well using salmon eggs, home made dough baits, ice jigs and power bait.
MONASTERY LAKE: We had no reports this week. Anglers are reminded that this lake is closed to ice fishing.
PECOS RIVER: Water flow near Anton Chico as of Monday morning was 13cfs. Trout fishing was slow but a few fish were taken by anglers using salmon eggs and fishing slow.
RED RIVER: Water flow below the hatchery was 51cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
RIO GRANDE: The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 440cfs. Fishing was slow-to-fair using large bunny leeches and jerk baits for northern pike. A few trout were taken by anglers using wooly buggers.
STORRIE LAKE: As of Monday there was still open water for bank fishing. Trout fishing was fair-to-good using yellow power bait and cheese.
UTE LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.

 

NORTHWEST AREA

ABIQUIU LAKE: Thin ice was reported in some of the coves but the main boat ramp area was still free of ice as of Monday. Fishing was slow for all species.
ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: Trout fishing was good this past week for anglers using small red copper john barrs, salmon eggs and wax worms. A slow drift on light line seemed to work best. Anglers reported good success on the Bernalillo, Belen and Albuquerque Drains.
BLUEWATER LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week. For updated ice conditions contact the state park office at 505-876-2391.
CHAMA RIVER: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 96cfs and 200cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair for anglers using spinners and salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports from below Abiquiu.
COCHITI LAKE: As of Monday there was some ice forming in the coves and a little near the boat ramp. Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
EL VADO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
FENTON LAKE: As of Monday, the ice was about 17 inches thick. Trout fishing was good using wax worms and salmon eggs for a mixed bag of rainbows and cutthroats.
HERON LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
JACKSON LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
JEMEZ WATERS: Fishing the lower stretches of the Jemez River (below the Ranger Station) was fair for anglers using salmon eggs, egg patterns and red and green copper john barrs.
LAKE FARMINGTON: We had no reports from anglers this week.
NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was extremely light.
RAMAH LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 794cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was slow-to-fair for anglers using orange sparkle worms, leeches, desert storms and San Juan worms. Fishing slow and deep worked best again this past week. Water clarity was just over a foot. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using garlic cheese, power bait and power eggs.
SANTA CRUZ LAKE: Anglers are reminded that the lake is closed to ice fishing.
TINGLEY BEACH: At the Youth Pond and the Central Pond, trout fishing was very good using spinners, leeches, power eggs and white and yellow power bait. At the Catch and Release Pond best baits were white bunny leeches, scuds, emergers and pink egg patterns.

 

SOUTHWEST AREA

BEAR CANYON: We had no reports from anglers this week.
BILL EVANS LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
BURN LAKE: Trout fishing was good using garlic cheese and garlic eggs. One angler also reported catching a largemouth bass. Anglers reported thin ice in the morning hours but cleared by mid afternoon.
CABALLO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.
ELEPHANT BUTTE: Striped bass fishing was generally slow but there were a few fish taken by anglers using live bait and fishing during the afternoon hours. A few white bass and walleye were taken by anglers using slab spoons and white grubs. Fishing for all other species was slow.
GLENWOOD POND: We had no reports from anglers this week.
ESCONDIDA LAKE: Trout fishing was good this past week for anglers using yellow power bait and cheese.
GILA RIVER: We had no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE ROBERTS: We had no reports from anglers this week.
PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species.
QUEMADO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 14cfs. Trout fishing was good for anglers using worms, salmon eggs and power bait.

 

SOUTHEAST AREA

BATAAN LAKE: Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait, worms and spinners.
BOSQUE REDONDO: Trout fishing was good for anglers using salmon eggs, garlic cheese, power bait and Pistol Petes.
BOTTOMLESS LAKES: Fishing was slow. Stocking has been suspended due to a golden algae bloom.
BRANTLEY LAKE: Anglers are to practice catch and release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish.
CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE: The lake is being drained to accommodate maintenance work and will remain so at least through February.
GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using salmon eggs and power bait.
JAL LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE VAN: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using garlic cheese, salmon eggs and power bait.
MANZANO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
OASIS PARK LAKE: The State Park has drained the lake for maintenance and renovation. For more information contact the park office at 505-356-5331.
PECOS RIVER: Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 27cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.
PERCH LAKE: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair using power bait, cheese and salmon eggs.
RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow at Ruidoso on Monday was 2.2 cfs. Trout fishing was slow.
SANTA ROSA LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.
SUMNER LAKE: Walleye fishing slowed down a bit this past week but there were still several taken by anglers using swim baits, Leprechaun slab spoons and walleye flashers tipped with Gulp minnows. We had no reports on other species
