Susan Herrgesell, Advanced Hunter Education Program Coordinator, (530) 347-3980 DFG Offers 2-day Wilderness Survival Clinic Scheduled for Feb. 9-10Outdoor enthusiasts have the opportunity to sign-up for a wilderness survival clinic offered by the California Department of Fish and Game’s (DFG) Advanced Hunter Education Program. The two-day clinic will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 and end at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10 at Tejon Ranch in southern Kern County. The clinic will cover survival techniques for various terrains, including collecting water, fire starting, signaling, water crossing, and shelter building, wilderness first aid and information on the essentials for any trip in the wilderness. DFG’s Advanced Hunter Education Program will provide all the necessary class equipment and a survival kit. The cost of the clinic is $60 and space is limited. Meals are not included and accommodations are limited to camping. Tejon Ranch is located 30 miles south of Bakersfield and 60 miles north of Los Angeles. It spans more than 270,000 acres and is privately owned. Use of this area is made possible through DFG’s Private Lands Management Program, which is a partnership between the DFG and private land owners to offer opportunities for public access. Confirmed participants will receive an e-mail confirmation along with a map to the facility, a list of items to bring, and a workshop agenda.
