Q. Now that the G&F has a nonresident preference point system for elk, deer and antelope, how much does it improve the drawing odds?

A. At this time it is difficult to say due to the newness of the preference point system. It all depends on the species, hunt area and license types. Some areas are traditionally very difficult to draw while others are easy. For hard-to-draw areas, the preference point system will eventually assure those who persevere of drawing. Right now it is difficult to predict how many points will be needed to draw licenses in the more competitive hunt areas. After the system has been in place a few more years it will be possible to make an educated guess based on the number of applicants and drawing history.
