Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Make Your New Year’s Resolution Now; Ride Your Bike to Work on the last Friday of Each Month Bicyclists meet at JoJo’s Coffee Shop, Hartford The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) applauds those who keep their momentum going by riding their bikes to work throughout the winter months. If you are a bike commuter, who works in downtown Hartford, and you are not deterred by the cold and darkness, join others who share your delight in the outdoors. "Ice-Bike to Work" takes place the last Friday of each month through March from 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. Bike commuters meet for a free breakfast at JoJo’s Coffee Shop, 22 Pratt Street, Hartford before going to work. Commissioner Gina McCarthy says, "What could be crazier than a New Englander riding their bike to work in the cold, winter months? Not much. For an exhilarating, healthy adventure, join other bicyclists who share your enthusiasm and have a great time meeting for coffee after your ride. I’ll meet up with you again in the spring." Sponsored by Murtha Cullina LLP, the Capitol Region Ice-Bike to Work Program encourages commuters to leave their cars at home and bicycle to work to provide benefits of air quality improvements from reduced automobile exhaust and reduced traffic for their community and the state of Connecticut. Commuters themselves benefit from bicycling to work with improved health and fuel savings.
