Youth Hunting Memories Contest Deadline Approaching
Waterbury, VT - The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources' Fish &
Wildlife Department is reminding youths to get their submissions in for
the first-ever 'Youth Hunting Memories Contest.'
The agency needs to receive entries by 4:30 p.m. December 15, 2007. The
contest, announced last month by Governor Douglas, is open to youth
younger than 16. Fish & Wildlife is looking for short essays, stories,
poems, art or pictures from young hunters describing their time while
hunting in Vermont.
The top fourteen entries from youths will win a Beagle Outdoor Wear fanny
pack, fish and wildlife hat and the state's Guide to the Wildlife
Management Areas of Vermont.
"We have received almost 20 entries to date," said Wayne Laroche, Vermont
Fish & Wildlife Commissioner. "I would like to see more submissions from
our young hunters, especially from southern Vermont where there appears to
be few entries."
All entries will be judged by George Crombie, Agency of Natural Resources
Secretary, and Commissioner Laroche.
"I would like to see kids send us a story or essay telling us about their
hunting experience this past year," added Commissioner Laroche. "Kids
don't need to have been successful in bagging any game. Often, the best
stories are those where the deer or turkey gets away."
All young hunters who send in a story will be sent a colorful embroidered
Youth Hunter Patch.
Young hunters are encouraged to send in photographs with their story.
Submissions will not be returned, and the agency reserves the right to
publish photos or stories that it wishes. Currently, the Fish & Wildlife
Department publishes pictures and stories of youth hunters on its web site
(www.vtfishandwildlife.com).
Submissions must include: hunter's first and last name, postal mailing
address, age, telephone number, and location of hunt.
Email submissions to
Ann.Shangraw@state.vt.us or mail to:
