Catches of the week

Bonito Lake : Nov. 27, William Schnedar of Roswell caught a 15.75-inch brook trout. He

was using a red Rooster Tail at the time.

NORTHEAST AREA

CONCHAS LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

EAGLE NEST LAKE: Fishing from the bank was good using power bait, salmon eggs, roe sacs, corn and spinners for trout. A few perch were taken by anglers using worms and salmon eggs. We had no reports from boaters as high winds kept most boats off the water. With the colder temperatures, some ice has been forming around the edge of the lake but coming off during the day. For updated conditions, check with the state park office at 505-377-1594.

LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE: Trout fishing was fair-to-good at both lakes this past week. There was a small amount of ice on Lake Maloya but plenty of open water for fishing. Best baits were home made dough baits and power bait.

MONASTERY LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

PECOS RIVER: Water flow near the town of Pecos as of Monday morning was 57cfs. Trout fishing was fair this past week for anglers using salmon eggs, bead head hare's ears, copper john barrs and power bait.

RED RIVER: Water flow below the hatchery was 47cfs. Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power eggs, night crawlers and wooly buggers.

RIO GRANDE: The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 711cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.

SPRINGER LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

STORRIE LAKE: Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using corn, salmon eggs and power bait. We had no reports on other species.

UTE LAKE: In spite of all the wind this past week, a few anglers made it out onto the lake and managed to catch a few walleye and white bass. They were using slab spoons and working at depths of 34-to-45 feet. We had no reports on other species.

NORTHWEST AREA

ABIQUIU LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs, micro mays, parachute adams , copper john barrs, wax worms, corn and power eggs. Our best reports this past week came from anglers fishing the Corrales, Bernalillo and Albuquerque Drains.

BLUEWATER LAKE: Fishing pressure was very light and fishing was reported as slow for all species.

CHAMA RIVER: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 91cfs and 57cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair-to-good this for anglers using night crawlers and wooly buggers for brown trout up to 18 inches. Fishing below Abiquiu was slow.

COCHITI LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.

EL VADO LAKE: Fishing was slow-to-fair using power bait, night crawlers and power eggs for trout.

JACKSON LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

FENTON LAKE: Trout fishing was slow this past week. A few fish were taken by anglers using power eggs and power bait. There was ice in spots as of Monday but still quite a bit of open water for fishing.

HERON LAKE: Fishing was fair-to-good using roe sacs, power bait, salmon eggs and power eggs for rainbow trout and small lake trout. We had no reports on other species.

JEMEZ WATERS: Water flow on the Jemez River on Monday morning was 102cfs. Prior to the high flow, trout fishing was fair using copper john barrs and salmon eggs. Our best reports again this week came from anglers fishing just above the town of Jemez Springs. Fishing on the Cebolla and San Antonio was slow with only a few small trout taken on small wet flies.

LAKE FARMINGTON: Trout fishing was fair-to-good using power bait, salmon eggs, corn, spinners and cheese.

NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using corn, salmon eggs and roe sacs for trout. Most of the action was by the dam or near the Pine arm boat ramp. Fishing for all other species was slow although there were a few smallmouth bass taken by anglers using soft plastics and fishing deep off main lake and secondary points. Fishing pressure was very light.

RAMAH LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

SAN JUAN: Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 242cfs. The flow may be brought back up toward the end of this week. Trout fishing this past week through the Quality Waters was fair for anglers using small egg patterns, leech patterns, pheasant tail nymphs and dead chickens. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using garlic cheese, wax worms, copper john barrs and power eggs.

SANTA CRUZ LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

TINGLEY BEACH: At the Youth Pond and the Central Pond, trout fishing was good for anglers using yellow and white power baits, white power eggs and olive leeches. At the Catch and Release Pond best flies were UFOs, black and white bunny leeches and olive and gray scuds.

SOUTHWEST AREA

BEAR CANYON: Trout fishing was fair using power bait, salmon eggs, worms and corn.

BILL EVANS LAKE: Trout fishing was good for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs, worms, corn/egg combinations and spinners.

BURN LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

CABALLO LAKE: Fishing pressure has been very light and fishing has been slow for all species.

ELEPHANT BUTTE: Fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using tubes, spinner baits and crank baits for largemouth and smallmouth bass. Most of the bass were taken in less than 12 feet of water. Fishing was fair using slab spoons, crank baits and live bait for white bass. We had no reports on other species.

GLENWOOD POND: Fishing was good using power bait for trout.

ESCONDIDA LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

GILA RIVER: Water flow near Gila on Monday was 1,820cfs. Flows came up considerably this past week due to heavy rains. Give the Forks a few days to subside then give them a try. Use small bead head nymphs and small spinners.

LAKE ROBERTS: We had no reports from anglers this week.

PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species.

QUEMADO LAKE: Fishing was slow for all species.

RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 8.6cfs. Fishing this stretch was slow. Below Caballo, fishing was slow also but a few white bass were taken by anglers using crank baits and minnows.

SNOW LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

SOUTHEAST AREA

BATAAN LAKE: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using salmon eggs and power bait.

BONITO LAKE: Closed for the season on November 30.

BOSQUE REDONDO: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait and worms and Pistol Petes. We had no reports on other species.

BRANTLEY LAKE: Anglers are to practice catch and release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish.

CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR: Trout fishing was fair this past week for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs, wooly buggers and spinners.

JAL LAKE: Trout fishing was good using corn, power bait and salmon eggs.

LAKE VAN: Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs, power bait and worms. We had no reports on other species.

MANZANO LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

OASIS PARK LAKE: The State Park has drained the lake for maintenance and renovation. For more information contact the park office at 505-356-5331.

PECOS RIVER: Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 12cfs. Fishing was good using power bait, salmon eggs, corn and worms for trout. We had no reports on other species.

PERCH LAKE: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using salmon eggs, power bait and Pistol Petes.

RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow at Ruidoso on Monday was 74cfs. Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs and small bead head nymphs.

SANTA ROSA LAKE: Fishing from the bank was good this past weekend for anglers using tubes and crank baits for bass. The best report came from an angler fishing near the dam. Most of the bass were in the 11-to-14 inch range. We had no reports on other species.

SUMNER LAKE: Fishing was fair using spoons and jigs for walleye. We had no reports on other species. Fishing pressure was very light.
