ASK THE GAME & FISH

Q.  How can I find out if you are extending the elk season?

A.  Season extensions for specific license types sometime occur, but such extensions are very infrequent.  If an extension is scheduled, the Game and Fish issues news releases to inform the public.  Changes usually occur in response to a higher population and low harvest, especially if the low harvest will result in damages later on to winter range or private property.  However, these issues are normally addressed in the regulations in the form of late seasons and hunts in portions of an area.  These hunts are almost always for antlerless elk only.  Just because the harvest in an area is less than desired does not mean the season will be extended.  Seasons in the vast majority of areas never have extensions beyond the published regulations.
