Wyoming Game and Fish Department

ASK THE GAME & FISH

Q. What do I need to do to hunt coyotes?

A. There is no closed season or license requirement to hunt coyotes or other animals classified as predators under Wyoming law. Coyotes are well distributed throughout the state. If hunting is to take place on private land permission from the landowner must be obtained. In addition to coyotes, other animals listed as predators include red fox, jackrabbits, porcupines, raccoons and skunks. There are other animals that are predacious such as black bears, mountain lions and bobcats, but to hunt them the appropriate license for each species must be obtained.
