Federal deadline for reporting Canada geese control activities is Oct. 31
Landowners with a resident Canada geese problem who registered on a federal Web site this spring to legally complete egg and nest destruction on their property have until Oct. 31 to file a report with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at:
Registered landowners should click on the Resident Canada Goose Nest Egg Registration link, enter their user ID, password, and ABN number, hit submit, click on the Report of Activity link and proceed as directed.
Failure to report can result in privileges being revoked for the forthcoming year.
Destroying eggs and nests can be vital in controlling geese numbers, and is widely supported by both conservation agencies and animal welfare groups, including the Humane Society of the United States. Egg and nest destruction is also inexpensive when compared to other methods of controlling urban geese.
Instructions for conducting egg oiling and nest destruction, as well as for other methods for controlling geese populations and reporting requirements, can be found at http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/hunt/geese or by contacting the urban wildlife biologist, (812) 334-1137, swinks@dnr.in.gov.
For other wildlife questions or conflicts call the Wildlife Conflicts Information Hotline, (800) 893-4116.
