Dead Creek Wildlife Day Is Oct. 6

Waterbury, VT - Anyone who enjoys wildlife should plan on being in Addison, Vermont on October 6 for the sixth annual Dead Creek Wildlife Day.

Activities at Dead Creek Wildlife Day are especially for people who enjoy hunting, fishing, bird watching, or learning about Vermont's wildlife. The location is the Agency of Natural Resources Fish & Wildlife Department Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) on Route 17 west of Route 22A.

Early risers can begin the day with bird banding demonstrations starting at 7:00 a.m. Two large tents at the Dead Creek WMA headquarters will open at 9:30 a.m. and feature wildlife-related exhibits and kids craft activities, like face painting, decoy carving and building bluebird boxes.

Scheduled activities run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and include field trips, illustrated talks, a live wildlife presentation, hunting dog training, fishing and hunting tips, and much more. For those who enjoy an evening stroll, you can end the day with an owl walk on the north end of Snake Mountain beginning at 7:00 p.m. Plus there is the added bonus of viewing hundreds of snow geese at Dead Creek WMA as they migration south for the winter.

The festival is hosted by Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department, Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, Otter Creek Audubon Society, Addison County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, Addison County Chamber of Commerce, and Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, Inc.
