Striper clubs donate $12000 to DNR

Striper checkThe Midlands Striper Club and Greenville Striper Kings formally donated $12000 on Sept. 28th to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources as a continued effort by the clubs for electroshock equipment for the DNR striped bass brood stock. The presentation was made during the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) monthly board meeting.

Jim Goller with the Midlands Striper Club presented the check to the DNR Board. "In presenting this check, we endorse and support the work of DNR and its continuing effort of improving, restoring and maintaining striper habitat and angler access in South Carolina waters," Goller said. Also in attendance at the presentation were Midlands president Danny Young, Midlands treasurer James Cassell, Striper Kings president Ronnie Sims and Striper Kings treasurer Gerald Smith.

Midlands Striper Club, founded in 1970, and the Greenville Striper Kings, founded in 1981, are both family-oriented clubs, open to all interested in striped bass fishing. Their stated purpose is to stimulate public awareness of striper fishing as a major sport, to promote full adherence to all conservation codes, demand adequate water standards and to improve skills as striper anglers through fellowship and friendly exchange of striper catching techniques and ideas.

Midlands Striper Club is also committed to offering moral, political and financial support to DNR and over the years has made more than $28,000 in donations. Some of the funds include:

bullet2003: $5000 for a recirculation pump at DNR’s Bayless Striped Bass Hatchery.
bullet2004: $5000 for striped bass release tubes for a study on catch and release success on Lake Murray.
bullet2005: $5800 for telemetry tag transmitters and receivers for a study on the Lower Saluda River Basin’s striped bass population.

DNR protects and manages South Carolina’s natural resources by making wise and balanced decisions for the benefit of the state’s natural resources and its people.
