Fishing Day 36th Anniversary Celebration September 22nd
More Than 40 Fishing &
Hunting Clubs, Conservation Groups, & Vendors to Visit
HENDERSON, MD - TJoin more than 40 fishing and hunting clubs,
conservation organizations and vendors at the 36th Anniversary Celebration
of National Hunting & Fishing Day on Saturday, September 22. Open to the
public, this free event sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural
Resources (DNR) will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Schrader’s
Bridgetown Manor, located at 16090 Oakland Road in Henderson on Maryland’s
Eastern Shore.
“The family-oriented event offers fun and educational hands-on activities
that everyone will enjoy. It is a great way to introduce young people and
newcomers to outdoor sports, while teaching them about the important role
that hunting and fishing play in Maryland’s wildlife conservation
programs,” said Eric Schwaab, DNR Deputy Secretary.
A few of the fun and challenging hands-on activities participants can try
include spin casting, archery, and target shooting on the grounds with
skilled instructors. There will be displays of hunting and fishing
equipment and demonstrations of outdoor skills. Kids will enjoy the clay
pigeon and archery shooting range, laser shooting program, wood duck box
making, fly tying and spin casting, as well as dog demonstrations.
Exhibitors include the Maryland Sportsman’s Association, National Wild
Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Grand
National Waterfowl Association, Maryland Bowhunter’s Society, Pheasants
Forever, Maryland Trappers Association, Quality Deer Management
Association, and other sportsman’s and conservation groups.
Formalized by Congress in 1971, National Hunting and Fishing Day was
created by the National Shooting Sports Foundation to celebrate the
conservation successes of America’s hunters and anglers. From shopping
center exhibits to statewide expos, millions of citizens learned to
appreciate the country’s sportsman-based system of conservation funding.
That system now generates more than $1.7 billion per year, benefiting all
who appreciate wildlife and wild places.
