Division of Wildlife
Steamboat Area Women Get Intro To Shotgun Shooting And Fly Fishing
The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is offering
its popular women's Cast 'n' Blast program in Steamboat Springs on Saturday,
Sept. 22. The all-day course includes a half-day of shotgun shooting
instruction and a half-day session on the basics of fly fishing. Women in
the course will get the opportunity to try out their new skills at a
shooting club and a local fishing pond.
"Cast 'n' Blast is a great way for interested first-timers or beginners to
learn in a no-pressure environment," said Danielle Domson, district wildlife
manager for the Steamboat district. "The day is designed to be safe, fun and
encouraging."
All of the necessary equipment is provided by the DOW. The only cost for the
full day of learning and fun is $15, which covers the cost of lunch.
Participants must provide their own transportation to the site. Participants
must also have a valid Colorado fishing license. A one-day fishing license
can be purchased for $9 and annual fishing licenses are $26 for residents.
Hunter education certification is NOT required to participate in the Cast
'n' Blast program.
The program, which is part of the DOW Women Afield initiative, is
limited to the first 16 confirmed participants over the age of 12. For more
information or to reserve a space in the class, contact the DOW Steamboat
Springs Service Center at (970) 870-2197.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife is the state agency responsible for
managing wildlife and its habitat, as well as providing wildlife related
recreation. The Division is funded through hunting and fishing license fees,
federal grants and Colorado Lottery proceeds through Great Outdoors
Colorado.
