Division of Wildlife
Information Sought About Deer Killed at Rampart Shooting Range
The Colorado Division of Wildlife is looking for
information about a deer killed at the Rampart Shooting Range just west of
Colorado Springs.
The dead deer was discovered Thursday, August 23 by Forest Service employees
and volunteers from Fort Carson who were doing a clean-up project at the
range.
It appears the deer had been dead for at least a couple of days. A bullet
wound was visible on the deer behind the rib cage, but had gone entirely
through the animal.
Any information would be helpful. If someone witnessed the crime, or has
heard anything about it, they are asked to call Wildlife Officer Trina
Romero at (719) 227-5284 or 1-877-265-6648.
Callers can remain anonymous. If the tip provided leads to a citation, any
individual who provides information is eligible for a reward.
Illegal killing of wildlife is a serious problem nation-wide. No one knows
the exact figures, but some studies indicate poachers may kill almost as
many animals and fish as legitimate hunters and anglers take during legal
seasons. If poachers kill even half that number each year, the problem is
serious. Poachers do not confine their killing only to game animals.
Threatened, endangered and nongame wildlife are illegally killed as well.
If you have any information about this, or any other illegal killing of
wildlife, report it the Division of Wildlife.
