Youth Dove Hunting Clinic in Las Animas Sept. 9
The Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) will offer a
free Youth Dove Hunting Clinic in Las Animas Sept. 9. The clinic begins
with an instruction session at 11:30 a.m. Participants will be taken on a
guided dove hunt in the late afternoon. Activities will conclude around
dusk.
Participants must have a valid Hunter Ed card and a 2007 small game hunting
license with a HIP number. Each youngster must be accompanied by adult
parent or sponsor and must pre-register. The cost of a small game license
for youngsters under 18 is $1.
The day will begin with instructional sessions at the Las Animas Trap Club
(just outside the town). The dove hunt will take place later in the
afternoon at a nearby location to be determined later.
Only the youth will be allowed to hunt. DOW staff and volunteers will teach
sessions that include: gun and shooting safety, bird ID and biology, hunting
laws, and ethics. Lunch will be provided. Following these small group
sessions, all will relocate to a nearby State Wildlife Area to hunt doves.
Space is limited, so register early. To register, or for more information,
call: Linda Groat in Lamar at (719) 336-6608.
