8/15/2007 NEWS RELEASE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Christina Novak DNCR SEEKS COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS FOR OIL CREEK STATE PARK CLEANUP HARRISBURG — The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources invites volunteers to help remove litter and illegally dumped trash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, along the Red Ski Trail at Oil Creek State Park, Venango County. “Volunteers helped out tremendously during the cleanup of an old household waste dumpsite in late April and we’re hoping that same spirit will prevail as we work to remove yet another eyesore and restore Oil Creek State Park’s natural beauty,” said DCNR Secretary Michael DiBerardinis. “This time, the target is litter and dumped trash marring a section of Red Ski Trail off Russell Corners Road.” Volunteers should meet at 8:45 a.m. at the Petroleum Centre Amphitheater on Route 1007. Participants will receive lunch and drinks. Citizens interested in joining the cleanup should register with PA CleanWays by calling (877) 772-3673, or by e-mail to scarmichael@pacleanways.org. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, long pants, long-sleeved shirts or jackets and work gloves. All volunteers must be at least 12 years old. Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult during the cleanup and must have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian. Each adult supervisor may be responsible for no more than six youth volunteers. DCNR partners with PA CleanWays, a non-profit organization, to identify dumpsites and form community volunteer teams to help remove waste under the Forest Lands Beautification Program. To join a cleanup team in other areas, or for more information about PA CleanWays, visit www.pacleanways.org or call 877-772-3673.
