Deer Hunting Dates
Set At Wye Island N.R.M.A.
QUEENSTOWN, MD – The Maryland Department of Natural Resources
(DNR) Maryland Park Service has set the 2007-2008 dates for archery and
firearms deer hunts at Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area (NRMA).
As in the past, all hunts will be by permit only.
Archery Deer Hunting
Monday through Saturday only (no Sunday hunting permitted) during the
following dates:
September 15 through October 17, 2007
October 22 through November 23, 2007
December 10 through December 14, 2007
December 31, 2007 through Jan. 31, 2008*
All archery permits will be issued daily on a first-come, first-served
basis. No more than 25 archery deer hunters will be permitted per day.
Hunters must sign in and out using the self-registration system at the Wye
Island check-in station. All deer harvested at Wye Island as part of the
archery hunt will be considered part of the daily and season bag limit for
archery in Region B. All deer harvested must be checked-in utilizing the
Maryland Big Game Registration system either online at
www.gamecheck.dnr.state.md.us or telephone call-in procedures at
1-888-800-0121. No archery hunting permitted during the muzzleloader and
firearms season.
*During the late archery season – December 31, 2007 through January 31,
2008 -- lottery hunts for Atlantic Population Canada Geese will be held on
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from sunrise to 1 p.m. Archery hunters
should use caution and avoid entering and exiting hunting areas near the
goose hunting pits and blinds.
Muzzeloader Deer Hunt
The Muzzleloader Deer Hunt by lottery permit only will be held October
18-20, 2007. All deer harvested at Wye Island as part of this hunt
will be considered part of the daily and season bag limit for the
Muzzleloader Deer Season. Muzzleloader applications for the October
hunt must postmarked on or before September 14, 2007. Permits
will be selected by random drawing on September 19, 2007 at 2 p.m. Each
hunter may submit one application with a maximum of three individual
hunter applications per group hunt. Please staple all group applications
together.
Deer Firearms Season
The December Firearms hunt will be held during the second week of the Deer
Firearms Season,
December 3-8, 2007. All deer harvested at Wye Island as part of
this hunt will be considered part of the daily and season bag limit for
the Deer Firearms Season. Firearms applications for the December
hunt must be postmarked on or before October 26, 2007. Permits will
be selected by random drawing on October 31, 2007 at 2 p.m. Each hunter
may submit one application with a maximum of three individual hunter
applications per group hunt. Please staple all group applications
together.
Separate applications are required for the October and December hunts.
Successful applicants must possess a
Managed Hunt Permit (MHP) (see page 42 of the 2007-2008 Guide to
Hunting and Trapping in Maryland for details). .
