Rick Potts Appointed NPS Chief of Conservation and Outdoor Recreation
(Washington, D.C.) – Rick Potts became the new National Park Service
(NPS) Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Chief on August 5, 2007. Potts
has more than 30 years of experience working with wilderness stewardship
and resource management issues.
Potts will be responsible for establishing and maintaining agreements
with other agencies, state and local governments, and numerous partners
in the fields of recreation, trail development, conservation, and land
protection.
Potts will assist NPS Associate Director of Partnerships and Visitor
Experience Chris Jarvi with the national program management of the
Challenge Cost Share Program, the Hydropower Relicensing Program, the
Long Distance Trails Program, the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation
Assistance Program, and the Wild and Scenic Rivers Program.
“Rick’s experience, vision, passion, and ability to unite
stakeholders are just some of the reasons that I know he will excel in
his new position,” said Jarvi.
Potts served as the Chief of the NPS Wilderness Stewardship and
Recreation Management Division before assuming his new post. Prior to
that, he was the NPS National Wilderness Training Program Manager. He
has also worked in Resource Management at NPS sites in Hawaii, Alaska,
and Virginia.
