DOW Hosts Clean Up Day at Walter Walker State Wildlife Area

On Saturday, Aug. 4, the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) is hosting a clean up day at the Walter Walker State Wildlife Area near Grand Junction. Volunteers are needed to help clean up this special area, which is a critical resting and nesting area for waterfowl during the winter and early spring.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Walter Walker State Wildlife Area parking lot at 8 a.m. on Aug. 4.

The DOW would like to find some able bodied volunteers to assist local wildlife officers in picking up trash around the property. Lunch is provided for volunteers who RSVP and the lunch time will provide a great opportunity to visit with wildlife officers about area wildlife viewing, hunting or fishing opportunities.

Walter Walker State Wildlife Area is located on the west end of River Road, just east of Interstate 70, across Highway 6&50 from Western Slope Auto. Volunteers can meet in the main parking lot on the west end of the property.

To RSVP or get more information regarding this or other volunteer opportunities, contact Linda Edwards, DOW Volunteer Coordinator at 970-255-6145 or linda.edwards@state.co.us.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is the state agency responsible for managing wildlife and its habitat, as well as providing wildlife related recreation. The Division is funded through hunting and fishing license fees, federal grants and Colorado Lottery proceeds through Great Outdoors Colorado.
