ASK THE GAME & FISH

Q. "Do out-of-state kids need a fishing license?"

A. It all depends on the age of the youths and if they are with someone who has a fishing license. Nonresident youth under 14 do not need a fishing license if they are accompanied by an adult with a fishing license. However, the nonresident youngster’s creel limit must be applied to the licensed adult’s limit. In other words, two people can fish but only one limit can be kept. If the young angler wishes to catch his or her own limit, then a nonresident youth fishing license is required.
