Wilderness State Park Seeking Volunteers for Beach and Trail Cleanup on June 16

Contact:  Richard Hill Jr. 231-436-5381
Agency: Natural Resources

Department of Natural Resources parks and recreation officials today announced that Wilderness State Park is hosting a cleanup day on Saturday, June 16, beginning at 1 p.m.

The park is seeking volunteers to partner with members of the Harbor Springs Chapter of the North Country Trail and the Emmet County Democratic Committee to help with some spring cleanup. The goal is to have enough volunteers that both the beach and some trail cleanup can be accomplished.

Wilderness State Park hopes to start a "Friends" group soon. A Friends group is a volunteer organization that works with the park to set and achieve goals. Visitors who volunteer for cleanup duties will learn about other Friends groups that exist at other park locations and hear about the benefits for the group and the park. This will be an opportunity to "GO-Get Outdoors," meet new friends and have some fun while performing a worthwhile project.

Wilderness State Park, encompassing more than 10,000 acres, is located at 903 Wilderness Park Dr. in Carp Lake in Emmet County, 11 miles west of Mackinaw City.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
