“This is a great opportunity for beginners to learn about shotgun-shooting fundamentals and safety, and to give sporting clays target shooting a try on the range,” says Tristanna Bickford, hunter recruitment and retention coordinator for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Sporting clays has often been called “golf with a shotgun.” Participants shoot at different targets launched into the air or on the ground from different positions on a desert course. The class is free, but pre-registration is required due to space limitations. To register, e-mail ljarrett@azgfd.gov or call (602) 789-3219. The Ben Avery Clay Target Center is located at 37016 N. Archery Drive in Phoenix. To get there, take I-17 to Carefree Highway (exit 223), go 1/2 mile west on Carefree Highway to the entrance at Long Shot Lane, and follow the signs.
