A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held May 12, 10
a.m., to officially open the new 13-mile loop Bloodroot Trail for
hiking and mountain biking at Salamonie Reservoir.
Those who want to take part should meet at the trailhead across
the road from the Interpretive Center in the Lost Bridge West State
Recreation Area to enjoy the guest speakers and hike or bike the
trail.
"The Bloodroot Trail loops through some of Salamonie’s most
scenic areas and includes some beautiful overlooks of the
reservoir," said Wayne Ley, assistant property manager. "After the
ceremony or after completing the trail, enjoy the relaxing
atmosphere of Salamonie’s Interpretive Center and check out the
displays, wildlife viewing window and the Otter Run Tradin’ Post."
The Tradin’ Post offers Bloodroot Trail patches, walking sticks,
field guides and other Salamonie souvenirs. Annual entrance passes
for DNR State Parks and Reservoirs properties, horse riding permits
and boating permits are also on sale.
Enjoy a wonderful spring weekend on the property and camp at
Salamonie. Both electric and non-electric sites are available in the
Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area. Salamonie’s beautiful Youth
Group campground provides a great location close to the trail.
Camping reservations can be made through Indiana’s Central
Reservation System, at
www.CAMP.IN.gov or (866) 622-6746.
