HUNTER EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR WORKSHOPS COMING TO SHERIDAN AND LARAMIE

CHEYENNE - Wyoming’s volunteer hunter education instructors are alerted to attend an upcoming workshop. Hunters interested in becoming an instructor are also invited to attend one of the Saturday workshops to learn about the program.

"Our volunteer instructors are the cornerstone of the Wyoming hunter education program," said Jim Dawson, hunter education coordinator for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. "As with all teachers, some continuing education is occasionally helpful to stay up to date."

He adds the workshops are interactive and will focus on teaching strategies and curriculum updates to help promote a consistent statewide hunter education message. The workshops run 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at these locations:

May 5       Sheridan G&F Office (307) 672-7418
June 16     Laramie G&F Office (307) 745-4046

Seating is limited, so pre-registration is required by calling the Game and Fish regional office or Dawson at (307) 777-4531.

Hunter education became a state law in 1972 and requires all individuals born after 1965 hunting with a firearm or applying for a hunting license to have passed the course. Of Wyoming’s approximately 400 certified hunter education instructors, 212 are actively teaching. In 2006, those instructors had 3,661 students successfully pass the course.

The Game and Fish supports the Americans with Disabilities Act. Every effort will be made for reasonable accommodations by contacting the appropriate Game and Fish office.
