Goose Creek youth fishing event May 5
The
S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be hosting a youth fishing
event Saturday, May 5th at the Goose Creek Municipal Complex pond from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m. All area youth 16 years and younger are invited to
participate.
Accompanied by an adult, all youth can enjoy a day of fishing for catfish.
Bait and a stringer for the fish will be provided, and kids are asked to
bring their own fishing rod and reel. A fish cleaning demonstration will be
on-site, teaching kids the proper techniques to clean their own fish. In
addition to the fishing activities, kids can learn how to be an SC Reel Kid
and see what archery in the schools is all about. Many other educational
exhibits will be on site. Refreshments will be provided, and kids will be
awarded prizes through random drawings. DNR event coordinators ask that you
leave coolers and pets at home.
Come out at 9 a.m. and take advantage of the beautiful weather and
experience a free and fun day of fishing. The Goose Creek Municipal Complex
is located at 519 North Goose Creek Boulevard. For additional information
on the youth fishing event, call (843) 825-3387.
Over 300 area youth participated in the 2006 youth fishing event. Youth
anglers caught species including catfish, shellcrackers, bluegill,
largemouth bass and eel. The event is one in a series of youth fishing
events statewide that promote hunting and fishing to area youth. Check dates
