Young Girls Passion for the Outdoors Celebrated
WATERBURY, VT -- A young girls enthusiasm for the
outdoors was celebrated in Montpelier on Saturday, March
31, with Vermont Fish & Wildlife officials and more than
two hundred Hunter Education and Let's Go Fishing
volunteers.
Kayla Lackey from Wilmington, Vermont had her life
tragically cut short by an automobile accident in the
spring of 2005. She loved the outdoors and was looking
forward to turkey hunting.
Her family contacted us shortly after her untimely
death, said Mark Scott, education manager for Vermont
Fish and Wildlife Department. Family members, friends
and people in her community wanted to support the
conservation camps. To remember Kayla and her passion to
go turkey hunting, donations were used to purchase a
computer simulated LaserShot system to teach people
about hunter education.
The family of Kayla Lackey, Mr. and Mrs. Brad Lackey
of Wilmington, Vermont were in attendance along with
several family members for the dedication of a LaserShot
simulator.
The simulator, which has already been used at several
public events, will be housed at the Kehoe Conservation
Camps new Education Center at Lake Bomoseen.
