Cape Henlopen State Park Announces Special Events in April

At Cape Henlopen State Park in April, you can fly a kite, observe osprey and participate in living history from the World War II era in the park’s special programs. Here are the details:

• 39th Annual Kite Festival - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 6
Celebrate spring at Kite Day on the park’s parade field with kite flying contests and demonstrations, kite and craft vendors, and food and fun for all ages. A special event entrance fee of $3 per vehicle will be charged at the park entrance.

• Osprey Festival - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 7
Bring the whole family to the Seaside Nature Center and welcome back our nesting ospreys. Festivities kick off with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. for the official opening of the park’s new Osprey Cam. See live animal displays by Tales and Scales, take hayride tours to see ospreys in the wild ($4 per person) and enjoy music, games, activities and crafts.

• Fort Miles: The War Years Special Event - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (1000-1600), Saturday, April 28
Step back in time to 1944 and witness history coming to life. Interact with historical re-enactors in period uniform as they discuss the gear, duties and life of soldiers during World War II. Observe a tactical maneuvers demonstration and witness gun drills on period artillery pieces. Special tours of the Battery 519 Museum will also be conducted, admission $3 per person.

• World War II Period Canteen Dance - 7 p.m. (1900) Saturday, April 28
Swing to the sounds of a live Big Band in this exciting 1940s period style dance. Dress in period clothing and really get into the swing of it or just come to listen to the music and dance. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple in advance, $20 per person and $30 per couple at the door if available. Call the Nature Center at 302-645-6852 for more information.
