Fishing tournament observer class offered

Governor's Cup '06The International Game Fish Association will hold an IGF Certified Observer Program, which will train and certify experienced anglers, boat captains and crewmembers as observers for fishing tournaments held around the world.

The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Observer training class will be held Saturday, March 31 at the Marine Resources Division of S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) indoor classroom on James Island.

Applications are available at the IGFA website, the Certified Observer Program and IGFA headquarters. The applications must be completed, mailed or faxed (954-924-4220) to IGFA accompanied with a $150 fee, payable to IGFA. This fee covers the cost of the training class, an observer’s handbook with species identification video, and a one-year membership in IGFA.

The one-day training program will begin promptly at 9 a.m. with instructors covering the following topics:

bulletSpecies identification
bulletIGFA Saltwater Fishing rules and regulations
bulletSafety at Sea
bulletBoating etiquette

At conclusion of instruction, a written exam will be given which will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. Attendees will be notified of their certification by IGFA within a week of the class. Should any candidate fail the exam, there will be future opportunities to retake the exam at no additional cost.
