RALEIGH, N.C. (March 5, 2007) – The next Fisheries and Wildlife Seminar at the Centennial Campus Center for Wildlife Education will examine the role of land acquisition in wildlife conservation and be presented by a leading authority on the subject. The March 14 program will be led by Wib Owen, director of the N.C. Division of Forest Resources. Owen is known throughout the state for his former duties with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission as assistant chief of wildlife management, where he was responsible for coordinating land acquisition. He also developed wildlife and forestry technical guidance for private landowners through the Forest Stewardship Program. The Fisheries and Wildlife Seminar begins at 4 p.m. in the auditorium on the first floor of the Wildlife Resources Commission Administrative Headquarters and Education Center, 1751 Varsity Drive, Raleigh on the Centennial Campus of N.C. State University. “This is a crucial topic at a crucial time,” said Marti Kane, seminar coordinator. “The loss of farmland and forests across the state fractures wildlife populations and disrupts wildlife diversity. This program will focus on how property is identified for purchase and how land acquisitions are managed by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.” The free presentation is preceded with a networking session and refreshments from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. A free parking pass is available by e-mail request, with name and mailing address included, to centennialcenter@ncwildlife.org.
