Boat Ramp at McGinnis Pond Closed Until Mid-March; New Wider and Longer Ramp Now Under Construction

The boat ramp at McGinnis Pond near Magnolia will be closed from now until mid-March while the ramp is being replaced and the surrounding bulkhead is being rebuilt, the Division of Fish and Wildlife announced today.

The old ramp is in bad condition and is also too narrow for many of today’s typical pond-sized boats, said Craig Shirey of the Division’s Fisheries section. “The new ramp will be at least two feet wider and extend farther down into the pond to make it easier to float boats off their trailers,” Shirey said. “This project should give boaters better and easier access to McGinnis Pond, just in time for fishing season.”

The pond’s water level will be temporarily drawn down approximately 24 to 36 inches and anglers will not be permitted to use the boat ramp at any time during construction, which is expected to last about two weeks, depending on the weather.

For more information about the project, please call Craig Shirey, Fisheries, 302-739-9914.
