Catches of the week
Navajo Lake : Saturday, Feb. 10, Tim Nobis of Aztec caught a 34-inch, 15.4-pound brown trout. On the same trip, his friend Rick Anderson, also of Aztec, caught a 5-pound and a 12-pound northern pike. Both anglers were trolling deep-diving crank baits on the main lake between Sims Mesa and Francis Canyon .

NORTHEAST AREA
COCHITI LAKE : The lake was still covered with ice that was considered unsafe for fishing. For updated conditions, call the park rangers office at 505-465-2300. CONCHAS LAKE : Warmer weather brought a few anglers out this past week. They fished from boats and from the bank with no success. Don't expect the action to pick up until we get another week or two of warm weather. EAGLE NEST LAKE : As of this past Monday the ice was about 17-to-19 inches thick. Fishing was very good for anglers using ice jigs tipped with power bait or wax worms, dough baits, power bait and salmon eggs for perch and trout. For updated ice conditions, contact the state park office at 505-377-1594. LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE : As of Monday the ice was about 22 inches thick at Lake Maloya . Trout fishing was reported as very good by anglers using home made tuna dough bait. There were several limits taken by anglers using this bait. Most of the fish were in the 8-to-10 inch range with a few measuring up to 13 inches. A few trout were also taken by anglers using jigs and power bait. We had no reports from Lake Alice . The state park office at the lake has advised us to inform anglers that they will be fishing at their own risk. For updated ice conditions contact the state park office at 505-445-5607. MONASTERY LAKE : The lake is closed to ice fishing. PECOS RIVER : As of Monday, water flow near Anton Chico was 24cfs.Trout fishing was fair for anglers using small spinners, small bead head nymphs, power bait, wax worms and salmon eggs. The best fishing has been in the late morning and early afternoon hours. RED RIVER : Water flow as of Monday near Questa was 38cfs. Fishing below the hatchery this past weekend was fair-to-good for anglers using small flash back pheasant tails, San Juan worms, wax worms, salmon eggs and power bait for trout. RIO GRANDE : The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 580cfs. Fishing was generally slow for all species. A few northern pike were taken by anglers using large bunny leeches and jerk baits. The pike ranged in size from 20-to-29 inches. A few trout were taken by anglers using salmon eggs and worms. STORRIE LAKE : Thin ice continues to be a problem for anglers at this time. For updated conditions call the state park office at 505-425-7278. UTE LAKE : A few anglers ventured out this past week looking for white bass and walleye but the fishing was very slow. The weather warmed up but surface water temps were still around 35 degrees. Fish deep and slow for your best chance of catching fish in these conditions.
NORTHWEST AREA
ABIQUIU LAKE : As of this past Monday about 75% of the lake including the boat ramp area was covered with a thin layer of ice. For updated conditions, contact the Corps of Engineers office at 505-685-4371. ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: Trout fishing on the Belen, Corrales, Peralta and Bernalillo Drains was fair-to-good this past week. Anglers did well using, salmon eggs, small wet flies, wax worms, power bait and small crappie jigs. We had no reports on other species. ANIMAS RIVER : Trout fishing was fair for anglers using red annelids, small bead head wooly buggers and small spinners. BLUEWATER LAKE : Warm weather this past week created mushy and thin ice conditions. The lake is closed to ice fishing at this time. For updated ice conditions, call the state park office at 505-876-2391. CHAMA RIVER : Water flow below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 211cfs and 37cfs below Abiquiu. We had no reports from anglers this week. CONSERVANCY PARK LAKE: Trout fishing was good for anglers using olive RS2s, San Juan worms and chamois leeches at the catch and release pond. Anglers fishing the bait waters did well using wax worms, Pistol Petes, power bait, small spinners and salmon eggs. EL VADO LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. FENTON LAKE : As of Monday the lake was covered with 8-to-12 inches of ice with an additional 1-to-2 inches of snow on the ice. Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using wax worms, ice jigs, power bait and salmon eggs. The state park office at the lake has advised us to inform anglers that they will be fishing at their own risk and to be especially cautious around coned areas. For updated ice conditions, call the state part office at 505-829-3630. HERON LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. JACKSON LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. JEMEZ WATERS: As of Monday, water flow on the Jemez near Jemez Springs was 38cfs. Trout fishing on the lower Jemez was good for anglers using small bead head pheasant tail nymphs, power bait, wax worms and salmon eggs. Our best reports this week came from anglers fishing downstream from the bridge at the Jemez Ranger Station. LAKE FARMINGTON : We had no reports from anglers this week. MANZANO LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. NAVAJO LAKE : Trout fishing this past week was fair for anglers fishing from the bank and from boats. Anglers fishing from the bank near the Pine arm boat ramp caught a few rainbow trout. They were using power bait, home made dough baits and salmon eggs. Anglers fishing from boats caught a few brown trout, northern pike and rainbow trout. They were light line trolling with large jointed Rapalas. With the exception of one big brown (see catches of the week) most of the trout caught ranged in size from 13-to-17 inches. RAMAH LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. SAN JUAN : Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 531cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good for anglers using egg patterns, RS2s, orange San Juan worms, red annelids, small flash back pheasant tail nymphs, and small bunny leeches. Further downstream, fishing was good using night crawlers, spinners, bead head wooly buggers, salmon eggs and power bait.
SOUTHWEST AREA
BEAR CANYON : We had no reports from anglers this week. BILL EVANS LAKE : Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon eggs, corn, power bait, small spinners and Pistol Petes under a bubble. We had no reports on other species. BURN LAKE : Trout fishing was good for anglers using corn, power bait and salmon eggs. A few catfish were taken by anglers using dough baits and worms. CABALLO LAKE : Fishing continued to be slow for all species. ELEPHANT BUTTE : Fishing was slow for all species. A few catfish were taken by anglers fishing the upper end of the main lake. They were using liver and dough baits. The water was quite murky and surface temps ranged from 42-to-46 degrees. The water level continues to rise and all boat ramps are currently open. GLENWOOD POND: We had no reports from anglers this week but fishing should be good since the pond was recently stocked with rainbow trout. ESCONDIDA LAKE : Trout fishing was good for anglers using power bait, corn, salmon egg/corn combinations and home made dough baits. A few trout were also taken by anglers using Pistol Petes and small spinners. GILA RIVER : Water flow near Gila on Monday was 335cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. LAKE ROBERTS : Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait and salmon eggs. PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species. QUEMADO LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. RIO GRANDE : Water flow below Elephant Butte as of Monday was 5.5cfs. Fishing here and below Caballo this past week was slow for all species.
SOUTHEAST AREA
BATAAN LAKE : Trout fishing was good for anglers using power bait and salmon eggs. BLACK RIVER : We had no reports from anglers this week. BOSQUE REDONDO: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait, worms and salmon eggs. BOTTOMLESS LAKES: Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait. BRANTLEY LAKE : Anglers are to practice catch and release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish. The park was closed for one day last week due to severe winter weather but it has reopened. CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE : Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using small spinners, small wet flies, power bait and salmon eggs. GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR: We had no reports from anglers this week. LAKE VAN : Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using power bait, corn and salmon eggs. OASIS STATE PARK : The park pond has reopened to fishing. For updated conditions contact the park office at 505-356-5331. PECOS: Below Sumner Lake , water flow on Monday was 30cfs. Trout fishing was slow-to-fair again this past week for anglers using corn, salmon eggs, Pistol Petes and power bait. We had no reports on other species. PERCH LAKE : Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs and prop flies under a bubble. RUIDOSO RIVER : Water flow at Ruidoso as of Monday was 14cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. Fishing pressure was very light. SANTA ROSA LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. SUMNER LAKE : Fishing was slow for all species but walleye fishing is steadily improving. Anglers fishing near the dam caught a few nice keeper walleye this past week. They were using slab spoons and working them slowly just off the bottom.
