FWP internships available to eligible college students

College students encouraged to consider summer FWP internship
If you are an enrolled student in a Montana college studying recreation
management, education or natural resource management, consider applying for
a paid summer internship in northeastern Montana.
The internship will be based in Glasgow and combines work with the Region
6 Parks program and the region’s angler education efforts. The dual nature
of the position is designed to appeal to students who want hands-on
experience with parks management and maintenance but who also want to gain
experience with education and youth fishing programs.
College students are urged to contact their career placement office
immediately for current postings of announcements or visit Fish, Wildlife &
Parks’ website at www.fwp.mt.gov and click on “Employment Opportunities”
listed on the home page under online services. Work duration, wages, housing
availability, application deadlines, etc. vary with each position so
students must read the announcements carefully before applying. For more
information or questions, contact Debbie Cheek, Statewide Intern
Coordinator, at 439-8299.
Eligible students must be currently enrolled in a Montana college or
university. FWP internships offer practical experience in a student’s field
of study and the opportunity to apply what they have learned in college to
the world of work. Through this learning experience the student usually
receives academic credit and a grade while completing practicum
requirements. The internship program has proven equally beneficial to the
agency. Many special projects have been completed by energetic, highly
qualified students eager to put their skills and knowledge to work in a
position relating to their career interests.
The Region 6 internship offers experience in parks and education, but also
gives interested students exposure to other FWP programs, including wildlife
and fisheries management and law enforcement.
Call Woody Baxter or Andrew McKean at FWP’s Region 6 office in Glasgow at
228-3700 for additional information.
