“Kentucky Afield” Features Challenging Game Birds in Season Across the State

Frankfort, Ky. – From waterfowl in the west to Eastern Kentucky’s grouse, the “Kentucky Afield” television show will focus on game birds across the state this weekend, February 10 and 11, on KET.

As the sun bursts forth over the bottomlands of Ballard County, so do thousands of ducks and geese. Host Tim Farmer teams with Ducks Unlimited and Ricky Walden of Walden’s Lodge as they introduce dozens of area kids to waterfowl hunting. The rare picture book scenery lets Western Kentucky take center stage.

In Central Kentucky, hunting with your best friend often means pointers and setters. In Jessamine County, Steve Martin with the Bluegrass Sportsman’s League organizes a training event to help kids and canines function as one in the field. Pheasant and chukar – a type of partridge – are in the sights of shotguns and “Kentucky Afield” cameras.

Elsewhere, watch the crew’s rendezvous with ruffed grouse in Breathitt County.

“Kentucky Afield” is a production of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. It is the longest continuously running outdoor television show in the nation. Kentucky Afield airs Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern /7:30 p.m. Central and is repeated on Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Central on KET.
