Weekly Fishing Report
Jan. 30, 2007 Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
Catches of the weekAlbuquerque Drain: Jan. 28, Kevin DeGraaf of Albuquerque caught a 17-inch rainbow trout. He was using sherbet-colored Power Bait.

NORTHEAST AREA
COCHITI LAKE : The lake is covered with ice that is considered unsafe for fishing. For updated conditions, call the park rangers office at 505-465-2300. CONCHAS LAKE : We had no reports from anglers again this week. EAGLE NEST LAKE : As of this past Monday the ice was about 17-to-18 inches thick. There were lots of anglers on the ice over the weekend and fishing for trout and perch was reported as very good for some but slow for others. Best baits were wax worms, power bait, ice jigs and salmon eggs. For updated conditions, contact the state park office at 505-377-1594. LAKE MALOYA/LAKE ALICE : As of Monday the ice was about 16inches thick at Lake Maloya and about 12 inches at Lake Alice . Ice fishing at both lakes was good for anglers using home made dough baits and power bait. The state park office at the lake has advised us to inform anglers that they will be fishing at their own risk. For updated ice conditions contact the state park office at 505-445-5607. MONASTERY LAKE : The lake is closed to ice fishing. PECOS RIVER : As of Monday, water flow near Anton Chico was 28cfs.Trout fishing was fair for anglers using small pheasant tail nymphs, wax worms and salmon eggs. RED RIVER : Water flow as of Monday near Questa was 44cfs. Fishing below the hatchery this past weekend was very good for anglers using a dry/dropper combination for trout up to 16 inches. The best combination reported to us was a size 14 hot wing caddis with a size 16 flashback pheasant tail. RIO GRANDE : The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 501cfs. Fishing was slow for all species. STORRIE LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. As of our last report, there was thin ice on the lake considered unsafe for fishing. For updated conditions call the state park office at 505-425-7278. UTE LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week.
NORTHWEST AREA
ABIQUIU LAKE : Ice has formed at the back of coves and up the Chama River channel. Fishing was slow for all species. ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS: Trout fishing on the Albuquerque, Corrales and Bernalillo Drains was fair-to-good this past week for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs, small crappie jigs and small parachute adams . Fishing on the Belen Drain was good using power bait, salmon eggs and small bead head nymphs. At the Corrales Drain, anglers also reported catching bluegill, catfish and small largemouth bass. They were using small crappie jigs. ANIMAS RIVER : Trout fishing was fair for anglers using small bead head nymphs. BLUEWATER LAKE : As of this past Monday the ice was reported as about 12 inches thick. Fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using ice jigs tipped with wax worms for trout. Fishing pressure remained light. For updated ice conditions, call the state park office at 505-876-2391. CHAMA RIVER : Water flow below El Vado Lake on Monday morning was 211cfs and36cfs below Abiquiu. Trout fishing was slow. A few fish were taken by anglers using leeches, power bait and worms. Fishing pressure was very light. CONSERVANCY PARK LAKE : Trout fishing was good for some but slow for others. We visited the ponds on Wednesday and it appeared most of the catching was taking place at the upper end of the middle pond. Anglers were doing best using power bait, wax worms and salmon eggs. A few fish were taken on small spoons and spinners. EL VADO LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. FENTON LAKE : As of Monday the lake was covered with about 8-to-9 inches of ice. Trout fishing was fair for anglers using worms, wax worms, meal worms and salmon eggs. The state park office at the lake has advised us to inform anglers that they will be fishing at their own risk. For updated ice conditions, call the state part office at 505-829-3630. HERON LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. JACKSON LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. JEMEZ WATERS: As of Monday, water flow on the Jemez near Jemez Springs was 27cfs. Trout fishing on the lower Jemez was good for anglers using small bead head nymphs, wax worms and salmon eggs. Some of our best reports came from anglers fishing below the bridge at the Ranger Station. LAKE FARMINGTON : We had no reports from anglers this week. MANZANO LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. NAVAJO LAKE : Bad weather kept anglers off the lake this past week. Your best chances of catching fish here this time of year is to troll for big brown and rainbow trout. Try using light line and troll big crank baits up the Pine arm. RAMAH LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. SAN JUAN : Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 525cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good for anglers using San Juan worms, red annelids, small bead head pheasant tail nymphs, egg patterns, red and tan larva and small bunny leeches. Further downstream, fishing was fair-to-good using night crawlers, bead head nymphs, bead head wooly buggers and power bait.
SOUTHWEST AREA
BEAR CANYON : We had no reports from anglers this week. BILL EVANS LAKE : Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using salmon egg/corn combinations, power bait, small spoons and Pistol Petes. We had no reports on other species. BURN LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. CABALLO LAKE : Fishing continued to be slow for all species. ELEPHANT BUTTE : Fishing was slow for all species and there were very few anglers on the lake again this past week. The water level continues to rise and all boat ramps are currently open. GLENWOOD POND: We had no reports from anglers this week. ESCONDIDA LAKE : Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs and corn. GILA RIVER : Water flow near Gila on Monday was 95cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week. LAKE ROBERTS : We had no reports from anglers this week. PERCHA DAM: Fishing was slow for all species. We did hear of one white bass caught this past week by an angler using a jig and grub combination. QUEMADO LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. RIO GRANDE : Water flow below Elephant Butte as of Monday was 5.5cfs. Fishing here and below Caballo this past week was slow for all species.
SOUTHEAST AREA
BATAAN LAKE : Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using worms and salmon eggs. BLACK RIVER : We had no reports from anglers this week. BOSQUE REDONDO: Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using prop flies under a bubble, power bait, worms and salmon eggs. BOTTOMLESS LAKES: We had no reports from anglers this week. BRANTLEY LAKE : Anglers are to practice catch and release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish. The park was closed for one day last week due to severe winter weather but it has reopened. CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL LAKE : Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait and salmon eggs. GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR: We had no reports from anglers this week. LAKE VAN : We had no reports from anglers this week. OASIS STATE PARK : The lake is currently covered with a thin layer of ice and is closed to fishing. For updated conditions contact the park office at 505-356-5331. PECOS: Below Sumner Lake , water flow on Monday was 29cfs. Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using gold spinners, red Pistol Petes and power bait. We had no reports on other species. PERCH LAKE : We had no reports from anglers this week. RUIDOSO RIVER : Water flow at Ruidoso as of Monday was3.0cfs. Trout fishing was slow. Fishing pressure was very light. SANTA ROSA LAKE : Fishing was slow for all species. SUMNER LAKE : Fishing pressure was light again this past week but there were a few anglers out who reported some success fishing near the dam. They were using slab spoons and catching walleye. They reported catching a few keepers and several smaller fish.
