Freshwater Fishing Trends

Mountains Area
Lake Jocassee:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Good, using topwater plugs, artificial worms, and floating worms early in the morning and late in the evening.
bulletTrout: Fair, trolling Sutton Spoons, Doctor Spoons in 50 to 80 feet of water.
bulletCatfish: Fair, using nightcrawlers, cut bait and shad at night.
bulletBream: Excellent, using crickets and popping bugs around banks from just below the surface to about 15 feet deep.

Lake Keowee:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Good, using artificial worms, crankbaits and spinnerbaits early in the morning and late in the evening.
bulletCatfish: Good, using chicken livers, mullet and nightcrawlers at night.
bulletBream: Good, using red worms and crickets early in the morning and late in the evening.

Lake Hartwell:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Good, using deep-running crankbaits and spinnerbaits.
bulletStriped and Hybrid Bass: Good, using live blueback herring in 36 to 46 feet of water at night. Some schooling activity has been reported.
bulletCatfish: Good, at night using cut herring and nightcrawlers in 5 to 35 feet of water in deep coves.
bulletBream: Good, using crickets and worms.
bulletCrappie: Fair under bridges at night using minnows.

Piedmont Area
Lake Russell:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Fair, using watermelon or pumpkin colored artificial worms.
bulletCrappie: Good, using small minnows in 8 to 12 feet of water.
bulletCatfish: Fair, using small shad.
bulletBream: Fair, using crickets and red worms.

Lake Thurmond:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Fair, using Shad Wraps, artificial worms and crankbaits.
bulletCrappie: Fair, using minnows in deep water.
bulletHybrid and Striped Bass: Fair, trolling cut bait in deeper water.
bulletCatfish: Fair, using nightcrawlers.
bulletBream: Fair, using worms and crickets.

Lake Wylie:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Good, using Carolina rigged worms, lizards or a chartreuse pumpkin Zoom Centipede in 18 to 20 feet of water.
bulletCrappie: Fair, using minnows over brush and around piers.
bulletStriped Bass: Fair, using spoons and bucktails behind Wylie Dam.
bulletWhite Bass: Good, using Ice Flies in the main river points late in the evening. White bass are still schooling.
bulletCatfish: Fair, using nightcrawlers and mussels.

Midlands Area
Lake Greenwood:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Good, using Berry Spoons, spinnerbaits and topwater worms early in the morning and late in the evening.
bulletWhite Perch: Good, using spoons and minnows.
bulletStriped Bass: Fair, using topwater lures and Berry Spoons.
bulletCatfish: Good, using cut bait and nightcrawlers near the bottom.
bulletBream: Fair, using crickets and red worms.

Lake Wateree:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Fair, using topwater lures up against the banks early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
bulletCrappie: Fair, using minnows or jigs in 12 to 14 feet of water at night and around deep water piers in the afternoon.
bulletCatfish: Fair, using nightcrawlers and cut bait near the bottom.
bulletBream: Excellent, using crickets and small worms.
bulletStriped Bass: Fair, using live bait at the mouth of June Creek.

Lake Murray:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Try using Texas and Carolina rig finesse baits with a shaky jig head on the edge of flooded grass and broom straw. Use a pig and jig around brush at 8 to 12 feet and flukes on points.
bulletStriped Bass: Good catches in backs of creeks, free lining herring and using plainer boards. Some schooling activity throughout the day from Shull Island to Rocky Creek. Good catches in schools casting double rigged buck tails. Ice Flies and top-water plugs, like pencil poppers and striper delights.
bulletCrappie: Good, using jigs and small tuffies trolling the creek runs, at 4 to 15 feet, and in the upper part of the lake around the confluence of the little and big Saluda rivers. Try medium minnows around brush piles, docks and around bridge pilings, at 6 to 18 feet. Some crappie caught as deep as 45 feet in the creeks.
bulletWhite Perch: Good,  jigging Flex-it spoons down 10 to 20 feet and and using small tuffies and red worms.
bulletCatfish:  Good, using cut herring and nightcrawlers on bottom.
bulletBream:  Fair. Fish with redworms, baby nightcrawlers and crickets in 3 to 12 feet of water.
bulletShellcrackers: Excellent, using redworms and baby nightcrawlers in 4 to 15 feet around a flooded grass edge, rocks, stumps and other structure.

Santee Cooper System            
Lake Marion:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Good, using spinnerbaits and artificial worms.
bulletCatfish: Good, using cut bait in 10 to 20 feet of water.
bulletStriped Bass: Good, using small blueback herring early in the morning and late in the evening. Fishermen are doing exceptionally well in the lower lake.
bulletBream: Good, using crickets and worms in the bar pit area.

Lake Moultrie:

bulletLargemouth Bass: Fair, using crankbaits and artificial worms in 3 to 10 feet of water early in the morning and late in the evening.
bulletBream: Good, using crickets and wigglers.
bulletCatfish: Good, using cut herring and nightcrawlers in 20 to 40 feet of water.
bulletCrappie: Good, using live minnows fishing the crappie beds.
bulletStriped Bass: Good, trolling deep running rebels and live shiners.
