Serious Snowfall Causes Stress to Wildlife
As everyone in the Front Range digs out from the
record snowfall, please keep in mind the stresses our wildlife also face.
Most deer and elk will move after a storm and are more vulnerable to cars
and dogs. If dogs start chasing them, they can have difficulty moving in
snow this deep and become exhausted and easy prey.
The Division of Wildlife asks that you keep an eye on your dogs to prevent
them from chasing wildlife. We encourage you to enjoy this opportune time to
view wildlife in their natural habitat, while respecting their space.
Please remember it is illegal to feed deer and elk.
Happy Holidays from the Colorado Division of Wildlife!
The Colorado Division of Wildlife is the state agency responsible for
managing wildlife and its habitat, as well as providing wildlife related
recreation. The Division is funded through hunting and fishing license fees,
federal grants and Colorado Lottery proceeds through Great Outdoors
Colorado.
