Paintsville Lake Tailwater Trout Stockings Postponed Until November 1

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                       1-800-852-0942, ext.330

Frankfort, Ky. – Today’s scheduled stocking of 2,000 trout into the Paintsville Lake tailwater will be postponed until November 1 due to high water.

The water level in Paintsville Lake has risen several feet due to recent rains, prompting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to increase the discharge into the tailwater to lower the lake. “This situation creates dangerous conditions for stocking and fishing.” said Gerry Buynak, assistant director of fisheries for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, explaining why the stocking was delayed.

The Paintsville Lake tailwater receives 16,000 trout from April through November annually.
