EXCELLENT BIRD FARM PRODUCTION HOPEFULLY SPELLS EXCELLENT SHOOTING

CASPER – With excellent production at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s two pheasant farms, the agency is alerting Cowboy State pheasant hunters to release sites across the state with the hope they have excellent shooting this year.

          Selected walk-in areas to receive pheasants at least once a week through mid-December include: Laramie County 21 and 34; Goshen County 9, 29, 35 and 63; Sheridan County 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6; Campbell County 4 (Greasewood), and Johnson County 9 (HF Bar). Hunters are alerted to check the specific dates and restrictions for each walk-in area.

          For wildlife habitat management areas, Springer will receive four releases during its general season of Nov. 4-10. The Bud Love, Yellowtail, Ocean Lake and Sand Mesa WHMAs will be stocked twice a week through mid-December. When the stocking truck makes the Lander area run, it is a 450-mile round trip.

In addition, in the Sheridan/Buffalo area three state school section parcels and one Bureau of Land Management area will also be stocked at least once weekly through mid-December: Sheridan County – Buffalo Run, Welch Recreation Area (BLM) and Ulm (bordering Walk-in Area 5); Johnson County – Rock Creek.

Three locations at Glendo State Park and adjoining Bureau of Reclamation lands will be stocked twice a week through Dec. 9. In November, a special permit is required to hunt Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays and only youth can hunt Sundays. A special permit is also required for Dec. 1-4.

Pheasant hunters, including Pioneer and youth under 14, are reminded that the $10.50 Special Management Pheasant Stamp is required to hunt at all these locations where the Game and Fish stocks pheasants. Owners of walk-in areas and their immediate families are exempt from the stamp requirement.

Wearing a fluorescent orange hat, vest or coat is required while hunting pheasants at Glendo and on WHMAs and is strongly encouraged on walk-in areas and for all other upland game bird hunting.
