Area deer registration stations changed

Area deer hunters are advised that a number of deer registration stations have changed in the Fairmont area.

Randy Markl, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wildlife manager at Windom, said the changes are the result of DNR’s shift toward registering deer using an electronic licensing system (ELS). “In order to get as many deer as possible registered on ELS, we have had to close some registration stations that lack ELS machines,” Markl explained.

Three locations in the Fairmont area will no longer be registering deer. They are: Olson’s Locker in Fairmont; Wilbert Store in Wilbert; and Gas and Grub in Granada.

The Fairmont registration station is Master Sport Bait and Tackle at 1520 Albion Drive, Fairmont.

Other registration stations in Martin County are Morris Bait in Welcome, Ajax Bar and Grill in Truman, and Austin’s Bait in Trimont. The Ormsby Machine Shop in Ormsby will also be registering deer.

More registration stations may be added if additional access to ELS terminals is secured. To get a complete list of deer registration stations check the DNR webpage at www.dnr.state.mn.us.
