Mississippi River
boundary clarified for fishing rules |
LITTLE
ROCK – Among the new Arkansas fishing regulations going into effect Jan.
1 is a clarification of the Mississippi River boundary in southeast
Arkansas.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission took the action to use a visible
landmark in place of the sometimes confusing “main levees of the
Mississippi River.”
The new designation for the boundary follows
the Mississippi River levee to the railroad at Yancopin, crosses the
Arkansas River at the Yancopin Bridge, east along the railroad to the
Benzal Bridge over the White River, then follows the railroad to Snow
Lake and then back to the Mississippi River levee. This is in Desha and
Arkansas counties, and in the area the Mississippi River and Arkansas
River levees merge. The railroad was abandoned years ago, but there is
still a bridge across the lower Arkansas River.
Some Arkansas fishing regulations for crappie,
white, striped and hybrid bass as well as
catfish specify “between the main levees of the Mississippi River.” |
