QUAIL WORKSHOP IN LAKE PLACID TARGETS LAND MANAGERS/OWNERS
Contact: Lee Taylor (863) 648-3200

The once-common call of bobwhite quail in southern pine forests is less prevalent than it once was in many locations. In a few places, the bobwhite’s call is still common; in others, it can become common again with skilled management.

That will be the focus of a quail management workshop in Lake Placid on Friday, Oct. 20, co-sponsored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Archbold Biological Station. The workshop at the Archbold facility will run 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and all landowners and land managers are invited.

The workshop will feature presentations by quail experts from Tall Timbers Research Station, The Nature Conservancy, Archbold Biological Station and the FWC. The National Wild Turkey Federation is also a partner in the workshop.

Topics will include bobwhite basics and the challenges, obstacles and options for recovery. Presenters also will offer information on how and where to get technical assistance from both private and public conservation organizations.

Pre-registration is required by Oct. 13. The nominal registration fee is $6 and includes lunch. To pre-register and get directions to the quail workshop, call Lee Taylor at (863) 648-3200.
