Frankfort, Ky. – The “Kentucky Afield“ television program reminds Kentucky’s 211,000 deer hunters that incidents involving falls from tree stands can be avoided with proper precautions. The program airs this Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8, on KET.

Anderson County’s George Mountjoy, a veteran Hunter Training Officer, demonstrates what can unwittingly happen when hunting from an elevated tree stand and how to minimize your risk. On average, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources reports two to four tree stand incidents each year resulting in bodily injury or death. Hunter education, which covers field and firearm safety, is required for all Kentucky hunters born on or after January 1, 1975 (who are hunting on property other than their own) and is recommended for hunters of all ages or as a refresher.

Also featured on the program, host Tim Farmer and Rob Colvis visit Western Kentucky’s Ballard Wildlife Refuge for a taste of early teal season.

“Kentucky Afield” is a production of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. It is the longest continuously running outdoor television show in the nation. “Kentucky Afield” airs Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern /7:30 p.m. Central and is repeated on Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern/3 p.m. Central on KET.
