New Lake Wallace
fishing pier dedicated
DERMOTT
– Anglers on Lake Wallace in southeast Arkansas have a new pier to pursue
their passion. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission last week formally
dedicated the new Chicot County fishing pier.
According to AGFC district fisheries biologist Diana Andrews, the idea of a
new fishing pier on the lake was first mentioned by Frank Henry of the
Dermott Chamber of Commerce. "That resulted in several meetings between the
AGFC, the Dermott chamber, Dermott Mayor Floyd Gray, the late Chicot County
Judge Mack Ball and landowner Don "Rip" Naron. After the meetings, we all
decided that at "T" type pier would work best at this location," she said.
The
50-foot long pier was constructed at a cost of $97,500 with an additional
$49,000 for paving the parking lot and road leading to the access. The
entire project was completed in early September. The money came from the
state Marine Fuel Tax Program and the Sportfish Restoration Program as well
money from license purchases. The pier and access are located just west of
U.S. Highway 165 in northeast Chicot County.
