| 10/3/2006 Arizona Game and Fish to host free hunting camps for new residents Workshops designed to teach Arizona small game basics PHOENIX - The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering a brand new opportunity to hunters, and those who want to learn to hunt, who recently moved to Arizona. The department will soon conduct its first-ever small game hunting camps to provide new Arizona residents with the basic skills they need to successfully pursue a variety of our state's small game species. Both adults and youths ages 10 and older are invited to participate. The workshops, sponsored by American Fire Equipment, include free meals, free instruction and the free use of hunting equipment during the camps. The workshops are aimed at developing responsible and successful hunters who recognize the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation. The Chandler Rod and Gun Club will also be assisting with the event. "The camps are designed to provide our new residents with an opportunity to enhance their hunting knowledge and skills here in Arizona, while also teaching them the values of stewardship and wildlife conservation," says Game and Fish Assistant Director for Information and Education Dana Yost. "The workshops are about hands-on learning, asking questions and being with others who are also interested in hunting in our state." Two small game camps will be held:
Both workshops will cover hunting opportunities, firearm selection and hunter education requirements. Other activities include 3-D archery, wildlife photography, environmental education games, survival basics and more. For more information or to sign up, visit
azgfd.gov/smallgamecamp.
The workshops are free, but pre-registration and a refundable deposit of $20
per person are required to ensure that spaces aren't blocked off and then
not used. The deposit will be returned to those who attend, but cashed if
someone doesn't show up.
