Upcoming 2006 KSAAP Fall Hunting Opportunities

The Kansas Army Ammunition Plant will conduct a drawing for a muzzleloader antlerless deer hunt and a two day quail hunt.  All hunters must be at least 16 years old and have successfully completed a hunter’s safety course.  All hunters are required to attend the mandatory prehunt safety/security briefing.  Any hunter who fails to attend the briefing will not be allowed to hunt.  All installation & hunt rules and questions will be addressed at that time.  The deadline for muzzleloader & quail hunt applications is October 27

Muzzleloader hunters may apply in pairs & quail hunt applicants may apply in groups of up to four.  Applicants must send their hunt preference (muzzleloader or quail), full name, drivers license number, social security number, birth date, address and phone number on a 3x5 index card enclosed in an envelope to:  Commander’s Representative, KSAAP, ATTN:  SJMKS-NR, 23018 Rooks Road, Parsons, KS 67357.  The information provided will be used conduct a mandatory background check for successfully drawn applicants.  Incomplete or incorrect entries will not be accepted.  Only successful applicants will be notified by mail.

The antlerless only muzzleloader hunt will be conducted December 1-3.  Muzzleloader hunters must use a muzzleloader only & have a carrying case for it.  No shotguns or rifles allowed.  A game tag is a valid tag on KSAAP.  Last year the success rate for muzzleloader hunters was 100%.

The quail hunt will be conducted December 15 & 16.  Hunters are required to wear blaze orange & have a carrying case for their shotgun.  In 2004 & 2005 hunter success averaged 1 covey & 1 quail per hunter day.

Successfully drawn applicants must pay a $20 federal access fee.  To allow for increased hunter opportunity, successfully drawn applicants will not be drawn for the same hunt for one year.  The only exception is if there are less applicants than open slots.  Hunts may be cancelled at any time.  A recorded version of current hunt application requirements & information can be reached by calling 620-421-7429.
