Spiny Dogfish Fishery to Be Closed October 6 through October 31

DURHAM, N.H. -- In accordance with National Marine Fisheries Service guidelines, effective October 6, 2006, no person shall take, land or possess spiny dogfish in New Hampshire waters, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Marine Division announced today. This restriction is in effect through October 31, 2006, the remainder of the period known to marine fish harvesters as "quota period 1." The spiny dogfish fishery will reopen at 12:01 a.m. on November 1, 2006.

The fishery has been closed as a result of a determination by the National Marine Fisheries Service that the spiny dogfish allocation for the current period has been taken. All states are required to close their fisheries when the federal fishery is closed.

Questions about the dogfish closure may be directed to the N.H. Fish and Game Department Marine Division at (603) 868-1095.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is the guardian of the state's marine, fish and wildlife resources and their habitats.
