VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LOCAL CONSERVATION PROJECT

September 28, 2006
Contact: Geoff Brown (850) 921-1047

On Saturday, Sept. 30, volunteers will be lending Mother Nature a hand to spruce up Guana River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for the fall season as part of National Public Lands Day.

“Guana River WMA is just one of more than 65 sites in Florida where volunteers will show their pride in our public lands,” said Geoff Brown, partnerships coordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Office of Recreation Services. “There’s plenty of work to do, and we would welcome more volunteers to help install trail signs, benches and picnic tables, weed-whack trails, pick up litter and perform other maintenance tasks.”

Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the FWC’s Guana River WMA Field Office at 440 Guana River Road in Ponte Vedra Beach and work until noon. Brown recommends volunteers bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, work gloves, tools and gardening implements.

To register, contact Geoff Brown at (850) 921-1047 or Justin Ellenberger at (904) 825-6877 today.
