September 26, 2006State recreation officials today announced Traverse
City State Park is inviting the public to GO-Get Outdoors at the park’s
annual fall harvest festival, Oct. 20-21.
The fun begins Friday at 7 p.m., with a short hike through the park
that will include a series of “spooky” surprises. This walk will be
followed by a campfire, s’mores and some ghoulish ghost stories shared
by members of the audience at the group use area.
Saturday’s events include a pumpkin carving contest, a craft hour for
children to make a treat bag and a contest for the best decorated
campsite. At 5 p.m., the roads in the campground will be closed for an
hour of campsite to campsite trick-or-treating. This event is open to
all who wish to participate (bring treats to pass out to the kids). An
evening hayride through the park will follow.
The cost for camping is $27 per night. To reserve your campsite, call
(800) 44-PARKS, or go online to
www.midnrreservations.com. For additional information, call the park
at (231) 922-5270.
All motor vehicles entering a Michigan State Park or Recreation Area
must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park
entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily.
A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.
